I’m Al Meier, a farmer from South Dakota. I have farmed all my life. With me it’s all about family and agriculture. We run a fairly extensive farming and seed cleaning operation; we clean and bag all our own seed for resale and for our own use. We raise clean and sell several varieties of forage oats, forage winter wheats, forage Barley, Buck wheat. We also custom clean bagging with two cleaning plants.
We are truly a family operation with myself, my son, my son-in-law and my wife. All are involved extensively, and now my grand- kids are getting involved with packaging and that sort of thing.

(Al’s son-in-law) is the Plant manager with MPM.
My role here is to ensure the highest quality in every product that leaves our facility.
I start by overseeing the incoming products, making sure everything meets our quality standards before it enters the plant. Once inside, I’m in charge of the entire production process—from the cleaning machines to the final process. I’m hands-on every step of the way: I set up the machinery, monitor the process to get the right proportions, oversee the bagging process to ensure everything meets our rigorous quality standards. In the end it will transfer to the bagging planet or bulk storage.
Quality control in our operation is a family effort.
Every aspect of production is overseen by a family member. Whether it’s field preparation, planting, or harvesting, a family member is always involved. For example, my son is usually the one operating the machinery in the fields to make sure we’re harvesting the best-quality grain possible. In the plant, Kylan, Mike, and Al each have their own roles in overseeing production, ensuring that every step is done right.

Our Story:
Cultivating Excellence Since the 1970s
MPM Seed LLC’s story began in the 1970s, built on a lifelong passion for agriculture and strong family values. Al Meier’s innovative techniques and hands-on approach laid the foundation for a prosperous family farm. Over time, the farm expanded its focus to include crops such as corn, soybeans, forage barley, winter wheat, milo, millet, oats, and sunflowers when Kylan, Al’s son, joined the business in 2000.
In 2003, Al married Mara, whose insight and unwavering support helped the business navigate pivotal transitions. By 2005, the family expanded their operations west of Pierre and Wessington Springs, opening up new opportunities and broadening their agricultural footprint.
Recognizing the need for diversification, the Meier family launched a seed-cleaning operation in 2014. What started as a small endeavor quickly became a state-of-the-art facility, featuring advanced cleaning technologies and robotic bagging lines. In 2022, the introduction of specialized sunflower cleaning technology further enhanced the precision and efficiency of their operations, allowing them to meet the unique needs of both agricultural and bird feed clients.
In 2024 we add a pallet making equipment, what improved efficiency.
Leadership at MPM Seed LLC is a true family collaboration. Al continues to lead with a forward-thinking approach, while Kylan oversees farming operations to ensure growth and sustainability. Mike, Al’s son-in-law, manages the seed-cleaning plant, promoting operational excellence and quality. Al’s grandchildren are actively involved in day-to-day operations and packaging, continuing the family’s tradition of dedication and attention to detail.
